Role: visual design, programming, copy writing, everything else
My current project, which is still something of a work-in-progress! When completed, this website will be fully responsive like the Skyline Pilots website (see below). I’ll also be using HTML5 – the latest version of the web’s “programming language” – to make the design as future-proof as possible.
Role: visual design, WordPress theme development, copy writing, everything else
This website for my cover band Skyline Pilots was built around responsive design principles. This means the layout automatically adapts itself to the size of the window that you’re viewing it in – this makes it easier to use on a variety of devices, from PCs to tablets to smartphones.
If you’re looking at the website on a desktop computer, you can drag the corner of your browser window (to make it bigger or smaller) and watch the layout adapt itself to the new screen width. Alternatively, if you look at the website on a smartphone such as an iPhone or Android, you’ll see it looks different to how it looks on a PC.
G7th manufacture a range of award-winning capos for guitar, banjo and mandolin. Their revolutionary designs are distributed worldwide, and have been used by everyone from Eric Clapton to The Kooks.
The site features product & brand information, a list of worldwide distributors, and an online store. A recent addition is the Personalised Capos section where customers can order their own custom-engraved capo by uploading images or choosing a typeface.
Role: Visual Design Concept
Derby College is one of the largest and most successful Further Education Colleges in the UK, offering a range of courses including GCSEs, A-levels, degrees, vocational courses, apprenticeships, courses for adult learners, and bespoke solutions for business.
The design needed to appeal to the college’s main demographic of 16-19 year olds, whilst remaining “grown-up” enough to engage with adult learners and business & industry partners. As Derby College already have their own in-house web team, the brief was to supply a visual design concept that could be built and maintained by the college’s developers.
Role: Design Concept, Front-End Development
One of the UK’s leading independent musical instrument stores. Sheehans has been trading as a bricks-and-mortar retailer in Leicester for over 25 years, with a large selection of guitars, woodwind & brass, orchestral stringed instruments and, more recently, pianos & keyboards.
Their website incorporates a large e-commerce section – with several thousand product lines – alongside information about their other services, including musical instrument repairs, tuition, and their annual acoustic guitar festival, Acoustic Avalon.
Role: Design (custom wordpress theme)
Dom Brown is a professional photographer based in Leicester in the East Midlands. This site showcases a selection of Dom’s photographs, and gives the company an online presence – to attract new customers via search engines, and to provide further information for customers who find the company through other channels (brochures, business cards, etc).
This site is built around the popular WordPress content management system – once the website has been set up, many basic changes can be made directly by the website owner without the need for any specialist software.
